Cravats

What is a Cravat

A cravat is a neckband, the forerunner of the modern tailored necktie and bow tie, originating from the 17th century in Croatia. It is a scarf worn around the neck and tied in a loose knot or bow at the front. Cravats can be made of various materials, including silk, cotton, or linen, and they come in different styles and patterns. Traditionally, cravats were worn as a formal accessory with men's suits, but they are now often seen as a fashionable and versatile accessory for both men and women, worn in both formal and casual settings.

How to tie a Cravat

To tie a cravat, begin by draping it around your neck with one end longer than the other. Wrap the long end across the front of the shorter end and continue to wrap around until you have one complete loop. Repeat by looping round again, but this time stop halfway and feed the long end up through the gap between the tie and your neck. Once fed through, pull over the top and tuck the cravat into your waistcoat.
