Shooting Jackets
What is a shooting jacket?
A shooting jacket is a type of jacket that has been especially designed for hunting or clay pigeon shooting. Shooting jackets are crafted to provide comfort, protection, and functionality for the shooter whilst in the field.
How to choose the right shooting jacket?
Your shooting jacket should allow for a full range of motion, especially in the arms and the shoulders. Some shooting jackets have what is called an ‘action back, which features two pleats running along the back of the shoulder. These provide extra fabric to allow the wearer to move their arms freely without the jacket feeling tight or restrictive.
Bellow pockets are another important feature, these provide storage room for cartridges and other supplies whilst out in the field.
Do shooting jackets have padding?
Yes, shooting jackets often have padding, particularly in key areas such as the shoulders and elbows. The padding in shooting jackets is typically designed to be relatively light to avoid adding unnecessary bulk or hindering movement. It may be made of specialised fabrics or other impact-absorbing materials that offer a balance of protection and flexibility.
How to clean a shooting jacket?
Shooting jackets should be dry cleaned only and should never be put in a washing machine.
