Ladies Country Jackets

What's the difference between a hacking jacket, Chelsea jacket & classic 3-button? What is a storm tab jacket?

All three are rooted in British tailoring but serve slightly different purposes. A hacking jacket originates from the equestrian world. Originally designed for riding, it features a longer back vent, slanted hip pockets to allow easy access on horseback, and a closer fit through the waist. A Chelsea jacket is a smarter, more urban style of jacket. It is typically shorter, features a neater fit and cleaner detailing. A classic three button jacket is the most traditional of the three, with a higher button stance, structured shoulders, and a formal uprightness that suits country and occasion dressing very well.

What does a single vs double vent mean on a ladies' jacket?

A 'vent' is the term used for a vertical slit cut into the fabric, usually to enable ease of movement. A single vent jacket features one vertical slit at the centre-rear of the garment. A double vent jacket features a vent either side of the rear to create a 'flap'. This enables the wearer to easily place their hands in pockets.

What is a storm tab jacket?

A storm tab is a small fabric tab with a button fastening positioned at the collar or neck of a jacket, designed to be fastened in harsh weather to close the collar more securely against wind and rain. It is a practical feature with strong country and equestrian heritage, commonly found on hacking jackets, field coats, and traditional British outerwear.
