What makes tweed a good fabric for a field coat?
Tweed has long been associated with the British countryside. It's rugged appearance, durability and insulating nature makes it perfect for unpredictable outdoor weather and country pursuits. There is very little that can keep you warmer than a well made tweed coat.
Is a tweed field coat waterproof - how does it perform in rain?
Cordings field coats do have a waterproof membrane underneath the fabric. Although tweed itself is not 100% waterproof, the tightly packed wool fibres cause light to moderate rainfall to bead and run off the surface rather than penetrate immediately, giving you reasonable protection in a shower. Paired with our membrane, our field coats will protect you in all weathers.
How much room should I allow for layering under a field coat?
A field coat is designed to be worn over multiple layers, and it should allow sufficient room for a shirt, a mid-layer such as a knitwear or gilet , and comfortable movement when shooting or walking. Our coats are designed to be worn over layers, so we recommend you order your regular chest size.
Can a field coat be worn off the field, in the city or for casual use?
A field coat is most at home in the country, however, they can be worn in the city as a statement piece. Well-made high quality country clothing can be worn anywhere and make you look good.
