Trouser Braces
What are trouser braces used for?
Trouser braces ensure your trousers are held up correctly and prevent them from slipping down. Once clipped onto the front and rear of the trouser waistband, elastic straps are worn over the shoulders which hold the trousers in place.
What is the history of trouser braces?
Trouser braces have been around for several hundred years but were first popularised in 1822 by Albert Thurston. During the mid-nineteenth and early twentieth century, skirts and trousers were not compatible with belts so trouser braces were almost always worn instead.
Why wear trouser braces?
Although belts have the same function, many people find trouser braces more comfortable as they don’t cinch the waist. Trouser braces can also be a deliberate style choice to add a distinctive touch to an outfit.
What to wear with trouser braces?
Any trousers can be worn with braces, but they are usually always worn over a classic shirt with a tie to adorn.
