Men's British Field Coats

A field coat is a type of outerwear specifically designed for the countryside. It typically features a rugged design with multiple pockets for utility purposes, such shooting equipment. Often, they have a slightly longer length than traditional jackets and may include features like a zip or button front closure, a high collar, adjustable cuffs, and sometimes a removable lining for added versatility.

Tweed has long been associated with the British countryside. It's rugged appearance, durability and insulating nature makes it perfect for unpredictable outdoor weather and country pursuits. There is very little that can keep you warmer than a well made tweed coat.

Cordings field coats do have a waterproof membrane underneath the fabric. Although tweed itself is not 100% waterproof, the tightly packed wool fibres cause light to moderate rainfall to bead and run off the surface rather than penetrate immediately, giving you reasonable protection in a shower. Paired with our membrane, our field coats will protect you in all weathers.

UK and US coat sizes are generally the same numerically, so a UK 40 chest corresponds to a US 40. The key differences to be aware of are in fit and cut rather than the size number itself. British tailoring tends toward a more structured shoulder and a closer cut through the chest and waist.

A field coat is designed to be worn over multiple layers, and it should allow sufficient room for a shirt, a mid-layer such as a sweater or gilet , and comfortable movement when shooting or walking. Our coats are designed to be worn over layers, so we recommend you order your regular chest size.

A field coat is most at home in the country, however, they can be worn in the city as a statement piece. Well-made high quality country clothing can be worn anywhere and make you look good.
