Stay Warm, Look Cool: Dressing for Bonfire Night With Cordings

What’s the history of bonfire night?

In 1605 Guy Fawkes and his associates attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and assassinate King James I. To celebrate the fact that the king had survived and the plot was thwarted, people lit bonfires around London which started a tradition that has lasted for centuries. In modern times, this event is marked around the UK with communities getting together, lighting bonfires and setting off fireworks, accompanied by mulled wine, toffee apples and other treats.

What to wear for Bonfire Night

Whether you’re in a muddy field, watching fireworks from a rooftop bar, or toasting marshmallows in your garden, one thing is certain: it’s going to be chilly. That means your outfit must strike a balance between warmth, practicality, and style. We’ve compiled some straightforward steps to help you look good and stay cosy during this year’s Bonfire Night celebrations.

Bonfire Night is the perfect occasion to unveil your winter wardrobe and layer up for warmth. A classic Cordings knitwear piece provides a solid foundation. Opt for a dark colour to hide any mulled wine or ketchup mishaps. If you plan on heading to a pub later, layer your knitwear over one of our Liberty shirts for added flair. This way, you can shed the thicker layers and reveal an evening-ready ensemble.

Winter Coats

When it comes to coats, Cordings offers a variety of options, but remember you’ll be standing outside for hours, so it must keep you warm. We adore our new Cashmere and Wool Coats, available in various colours. Alternatively, the ladies Schoffel range offers practical solutions to combat the evening chill. Most come with hoods to shield you from unexpected showers and handy pockets for warming your hands or stashing gloves.

Winter Boots

Navigating muddy terrain isn’t the time to try out new brogues, heels, or slippers. Keep your toes toasty with sturdy ankle boots or lined La Chameaus. Invest in boots that can accommodate thick socks, add a touch of grunge to your look, and won’t leave you stuck in the mud!

Accessories provide shelter from the cold and let you infuse personal style into your outfit. Scarves and gloves are your best friends in chilly weather. Our Silk scarves offer a beautiful range of autumnal hues. For extended outdoor evenings, consider our fur collars and wool scarves. And don’t forget gloves; our merino gloves are perfect for winter.
