Mannequin with his arm around John

A closer look at Cordings’ Spring/Summer 2022 Men’s Collection…

For the next couple of weeks we will be putting the spotlight on different items from men’s SS22. Every week a different member of Cordings’ talented sales team will style a mannequin based around a garment from the new season.

This week I caught up with John Twitchen to find out what he would combine with our new season Orange Lambswool V-Neck Sweater. Let’s take a look at the outfit he put together.

Take us through your outfit John.

“I built it around this orange lambswool sweater which is machine washable. I love this colour, so to draw it out, I combined it with the pale blue overcheck tattersall check shirt, the orange duck silk cravat and the red wool-challis hunting handkerchief which all have shades of this orange running through them. This, in my view, gives it a very spring/summer look. To pick up the blue in the shirt and the handkerchief, I paired it all with the new season, machine washable, gabardine trousers. These are a flattering trouser, perfect for that warmer weather we are supposed to be having. The Watson cotton jacket in a sand colour is also new this season. It pairs easily and works well for spring when there is still a nip in the air. It’s a handsome jacket with lovely nubuck detailing on the elbows and button holes.

The other thing I did was to coordinate the belt with the shoes. Always, gentlemen, you should wear the same coloured belt as your shoes. If your shoes are black you would wear a black belt. In this case I have matched the tan shoes with the tan belt. That is the normal dress policy for any suit or any trouser.”

Do you have a name for your outfit?

“I call this the Watson Outfit, named after the jacket of course and with a nod to Dr Watson in Sherlock Holmes”

Do you have a specific occasion in mind for it?

“It is best worn during the day, however I would also wear it for going to the cinema in the evening.”

What is your favourite garment in the men’s collection?

“That’s a tricky question. I like this Bloomsbury jacket, I think it’s just lovely, one of my favourites and something I wear a lot. The fabric is a blend of silk, linen and wool which makes it a good weight – not too warm but not too cold! Then there is the Green Nobel Check Linen jacket – there’s fantastic colour in this. I believe that when it comes to a jacket, the louder the better really.”

Tell us one fun fact about yourself?

“I have spoken a couple of times on the radio, back in the day.”

What do you like most about Cordings?

“oh everything: the shop, the clothing, the place, the tradition, the people… yes, especially the people.”
