Linen Care Guide with Cordings
How to wash linen?
Machine Wash: Wash linen in cold or lukewarm water (30°C or below) on a gentle cycle. Hot water can weaken fibres and cause shrinkage.
Use Mild Detergents: Opt for gentle, liquid detergents without bleach or brighteners, which can damage the natural fibres.
Separate Colours: Wash light and dark colours separately to prevent colour bleeding.
Avoid Overloading: Give your linen space to move freely in the drum to reduce creasing.
How to dry linen?
Air Drying is Best: Hang linen garments or lay flat on a clean towel to dry naturally. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause fading.
Tumble Drying: If needed, tumble dry on low heat, removing the linen while still slightly damp to avoid over-drying and to reduce wrinkles.
Avoid High Heat: High temperatures can cause linen to shrink and weaken the fibres over time.
How to iron linen?
Iron While Damp: Linen is easiest to iron when it’s slightly damp. Use a medium-hot iron and steam generously for a smooth finish.
Inside Out: Iron on the reverse side to protect the surface of the fabric, especially for darker colours or printed linens.
Natural Wrinkles: Embrace the fabric’s natural texture—some creasing is part of linen’s relaxed charm.
General Tips
Storage: Store linen garments in a cool, dry place. Avoid plastic covers.
Crease Management: To reduce creasing, hang garments as soon as they’re dry. A gentle steam can refresh linen between wears.
Pilling & Pulling: Linen can pill less than other natural fibres, but avoid contact with rough surfaces to preserve its smooth finish.
Ageing Gracefully: Linen softens with each wash—this is part of its appeal. With proper care, it only gets better with time.
