The Cordings Mackintosh and Rainwear Collection

Waterproofing was the raison d’etre of the original Cordings business. Charles Mackintosh patented his process of dissolving rubber and binding it to cotton in the 1800s, and Cordings have sold waterproof coats ever since.

Our Rainwear is built to last.

Our Mackintosh coats are individually hand made in Scotland by craftsmen using methods that have been applied since 1824 using rubberised cotton.

What is the traditional rubber bonding method?

Created by sandwiching pliable rubber between two layers of cotton twill cloth, known as 'Double Texturing', first perfected in the early 1800's, our Mackintosh coats are still hand made this way today.

Original and Timeless Features.

Our Mackintosh coats, such as the Hampton Mackintosh, were originally worn by gentlemen on horseback in the 1800s and are as practical today at withstanding the elements as they were nearly two hundred years ago. Adorned with original features; storm cuffs ensure your arms stay warm and dry and leg straps keep the coat close to the body when riding.

Made with flexibility in mind.

Our Mackintosh coats have both practical features that will ensure you stay dry and warm in the outdoors alongside stylish design that makes them a personal addition to your outfit in the city. Many are still available in the original Fawn colour of the 1800s as well as more contemporary colours such as Navy or Khaki.
