Goodwood Revival is held each year in the grounds of Goodwood House , West Sussex England. Motor racing enthusiasts come from all four corners of the globe, often with their vintage motors, to recreate the glamour of motor racing as it used to be. The Motor Circuit comes alive for the Revival, both on and off the historic track. The only historic race meeting to be staged entirely in period dress, the Revival sees a return to the halcyon days of Goodwood as the spiritual home of British motor racing.
It’s a celebration of bygone days, vintage fashion and wheel-to-wheel racing around this classic circuit, which remains unchanged since its heyday. The glamour and excitement is not just found on the track, the period dress and vintage stores and cafes make the whole event a true feast for the eyes.
CHOOSING AN OUTFIT
There is no dress code which visitors are required to wear, however the general trend is period style with many using their artistic flair to create an authentic look for the occasion. The fashion worn by the spectators plays a huge part in creating a vintage mood which makes the whole event that much more unique. The predominant periods are 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and it is wonderful to watch the decades collide on the day! There is no reason why anybody ought to dress up, although you will feel so much more involved. If you qualify for central Paddock access, however, gentlemen should wear a jacket and a tie and ladies, a dress or suit. A tweed suit is the perfect starting point for a gentleman’s outfit, teamed with a tattersall shirt, wool tie and trilby creates an authentic 40’s look.
Hair and make up play an important part for ladies and it is worth investing in an appointment with the on site beauty parlour to get the look right. Vintage pieces can be found in antique shops or online, mixing these with items in your wardrobe, such as a tweed jacket with vintage floral dress can look wonderful. One word of advice on footwear for ladies; you will be on your feet for much of the day so it might be worth bringing a pair of flat shoes like brogues or pumps to change into. These styles can work well for both 40’s and 50’s styles. Don’t forget jewellery and accessories!
