Dressing the Man(nequin) with Marnie Gooch

This week we have asked Marnie, our assistant menswear buyer and the newest member of Cordings’ head office team, to design an outfit around the Moleskin Wayfarer Jacket. This jacket comes in both a brown and a smart forest green, which as Marnie will explain, lends itself beautifully to pinker hues.

“One of my all time favourite colour combinations is pink and green, so I thought I would start by pairing the forest green jacket with a pink brushed flannel shirt and go from there. I added light stone jeans to create a casual spring feel. I then added some warmth and depth back into to the colour palette with the grape vintage merino waistcoat and brown tweed Piccadilly cap. Finally I added a berry Argentinian polo belt to pull the whole look together.

I think the different textures are really interesting, especially the brushed cotton layered under the rich garment dyed merino waistcoat, topped with the vivid moleskin Wayfarer jacket.”

Do you have a name and occasion for your outfit?

“I would say this outfit is perfect for a stroll around the park to see the spoils of spring, followed by some board games in a cosy pub.”

What is your favourite item in the men’s collection and why?

“My favourite is the Lovat Green Piccadilly Raincoat. I think the two tone fabric has a hypnotic quality and manages to be modern and unusual, as well as very traditional.”

Tell us something about yourself.

“I have a degree in Textiles and am absolutely obsessed by all things knitting.”

How long have you worked at Cordings and what do you like most about it?

“I have been at Cordings for only 2 months, but I already feel like I have learnt so much. I particularly love working with heritage factories and learning more about how different cloths are made, their history and characteristics. It is fascinating to me!”
