Burghley Horse Trials
Eventing is a sport where no matter where you are from or whether you enjoy riding or not, you can certainly still enjoy a day out. If it is for fantastic shopping or supporting your favourite rider, there is always something for everybody. A huge effort is put into making the event a success, whether it’s organising the trade stands, providing the media coverage for the riders or ensuring owners and members are fully immersed with in the sport. Without the public backing, this sport would die out. It allows young riders to compete through the levels, such as the Burghley Young Event Horse and Pony Club classes which enables amateur riders to experience and bridge the gap between them and the world’s top class riders.
The three competitive days are divided into the three disciplines, Dressage, Cross Country and Show jumping.
Dressage is performed on the Friday, and is a chance to witness masterful teamwork between horse and rider as they performed a series of precise movements with the key skills of Obedience, Discipline, Accuracy and Elegance. At Burghley, the expertise of the riders, and superiority of the horses is second to none.
Saturday is the cross country day and this is the day Burghley truly comes alive, cross country is an exhilarating spectacle, and the most challenging phase of eventing, anything can happen and it usually effects the score board, resulting in suspense and excitement.
Sunday is the final phase of the competition. Show jumping takes place on the last day, in which it aims to test both the horse and rider on their precision and stamina. This can be viewed from the main arena, where you can sit and relax and watch some quality riding.
Cordings are proud to sponsor Harry Meade, one of Britain’s leading event riders, and we asked him his thoughts on Burghley. “Burghley is one of the most civilised events in the calendar, the cross country course at Burghley is probably the biggest course in the world, others may be more tactical, but in terms of dimensions the fences at Burghley are massive. The park is stunning, and always very enjoyable. Burghley showcases the sport at its best”
Throughout the three days there are many opportunities to visit the trade stands, and Burghley offers a comprehensive range of exhibitors, from artisan food, traditional crafts and British country clothing.
Cordings are at the event, with our complete collection of understated British clothing, with some special show offers, and our famous bargain rail. It is the perfect opportunity to enhance your wardrobe, and with special show prices across the range, we have something for everyone. Our team will be delighted to show you our collections and discuss your requirements.
We look forward to seeing you there.
